Magdalena Balcerek
Dear PanCare-rers,
After several years as an active PanCare member, I would love to deepen my commitment to our network by offering my service on the board. I am eager to
contribute not only my clinical experience (both, as a doctor in pediatric oncology and as a researcher in the field of late-effects) but also my enthusiasm and passion for this important work.
Our PanCare network has demonstrated how powerful it is when we join forces to expand knowledge and improve the understanding and management of late-effects.
At the same time, it plays a crucial role in advocating for more equitable and accessible late-effect care for all patients – visions, that I share.
The numerous discussions and initiatives within PanCare have always been truly inspiring and being part of this commnunity has greatly enriched my own professional and personal growth – for which I would also like to take this chance and say: thank you!
I am very motivated to dedicating my time and energy in serving to contribute to PanCare’s strategic and organizational efforts, and its continous success as a board member.
Many wishes from Berlin, Germany
Magdalena Balcerek
Christine Dahl
I work in Copenhagen as a pediatric oncologist where am the lead of the long term follow up service.
Prior to starting s a pediatric oncology consultant in Copenhagen in June 2022 i was a working as pediatric neurooncology consultant il London, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children for 4 years.
In London, I started a multidisciplinary late effect clinic for pediatric brain tumor survivors, prior to this the brain tumor survivors did not have a dedicated late effect service.
Building the late effect service in Copenhagen I have visited Princess Maxima´s LATER clinic in June 2024 for a short internship.
The visit indeed has helped us move the plans for our service forward both in terms of the clinics organization and establishing research in pediatric survivorship research.
In 2024 I attended the PanCare meeting in Ljubljana and was introduced to the amazing organization and the multiple recourses.
Currently we are translating the PanCare plain summaries to Danish.
I have just applied for the possibility to join the guideline group in PanCare.
As a board member I would want to support PanCare with dedicated time and would look forward to work within a wide team within PanCare with the aim to strengthen the work and aims of the organization.
Francesco Felicetti
After graduating in Medicine and specializing in Endocrinology, I completed my PhD in Medical Pathophysiology at the University of Torino (Italy) in 2020.
Currently, within the Department of Oncology at Città della Salute e della Scienza Hospital, I coordinate our long-term follow-up program for childhood cancer survivors after their transition from pediatric to adult care.
Alongside my clinical activities, I am involved in research on endocrine complications, premature aging, and psychosocial implications after anticancer treatments.
About 10 years ago, I attended a PanCare meeting for the first time, and getting to know the PanCare community over time has allowed me to broaden my understanding of survivorship, as well as meet inspiring people and share valuable experiences. I participate in the PanCare Guidelines Group and in some IGHG expert panels for guidelines harmonization. Being involved in the organization of the PanCare meeting hosted in Torino in 2022 was a great satisfaction.
I would be happy to offer to all colleagues, patients, and parents within PanCare the skills I have acquired as an adult physician, trained in the long-term care of survivors, with enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to PanCare’s goals of improving the care and quality of life of children and adolescents cured of cancer.
Ali Hall
My name’s Ali Hall, I am based in Glasgow, Scotland (in the UK).
I qualified in 1991 and first nursed in Oxford, England. I have worked in Paediatric Haematology / Oncology since 1995, initially in the BMT unit and then the high dependency Haematology ward at Gt Ormond St, London. From there I moved to the Paed Haematology / Oncology ward in Edinburgh Sick Children’s Hospital, holding both staffing posts and, briefly, the Paediatric Haem/ Onc Nurse Educator Post before moving to Glasgow to be a Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist. In Dec 2019 I moved into Aftercare. I am now one of two Haem/ Onc Aftercare Nurse Specialists for Scotland.
I became involved in PanCare at Dr R Skinner’s invite, when I contacted him on my induction into the Aftercare post. Since then I have been involved in the PanCare Nurses and Guideline Dissemination Groups and have attended 3 of the last 4 in person annual meetings (Turin, Ghent and Ljubijana). I have found PanCare to be a very supportive, friendly and informative organisation both for me professionally and for my colleagues and the families that I work with. I would welcome the opportunity to become more involved.
Lejla Hodžić Pilav
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Hematooncologist, University clinical center Sarajevo
My name is Dr. Lejla, a hemato-oncologist from Bosnia and Herzegovina. I work at the Clinical University Center in Sarajevo as the Head of Pediatric Hemato-Oncology. My passion lies in improving and facilitating the treatment of children with malignant diseases.
Through my work with young cancer survivors and as a member of the “Heart for Children with Cancer” Association, I have realized the importance of post-treatment support. Regular check-ups are essential to detect and address late effects of treatment early.
Recognizing the lack of a systematic follow-up program in Bosnia, we launched the Follow-up Project, supported by our association and university clinical center. In collaboration with Ljubljana and Dr. Lorna, we initiated a twinning program to implement an effective follow-up system.
Joining the PanCare Board would provide opportunities to further advance follow-up care in Bosnia and beyond. As a pioneer in this field, I am eager to contribute, take on responsibilities, and drive meaningful change.
I hope to be considered for the PanCare Board and look forward to collaborating to improve the long-term care of childhood cancer survivors.
Zsuzsanna Jakab
Name: Zsuzsanna JAKAB (8 October, 1969
Training: University Medical School of Debrecen 1994.
Pediatric Oncology experience: 1994-2000 PhD: epidemiology (2001)
Pancare Membership: From foundation Lund, 2008.
Current Positions: National Childhood Oncologic Registry, Hungarian Pediatric Oncology Network (HUPON, 2000-), epidemiologic/clinical study coordinator, Pediatric GP, 2006-; Erintettek Support association: 2023-
Several years of clinical practice and rehabilitation camping gave strong motivation to work for the National Childhood Cancer Registry in etiological, clinical and epidemiological research and promote monitoring outcome, early and late effects. I was happy to be present at the foundation of Pancare in Lund, 2008 after experience in several international projects (Eurocare, ACCIS, Transexpo, PanCareSurfUp). In PanCareSurfUp we carried out data collection for the first pediatric long-term cancer survival study in Hungary. As member HUPON board and Erintettek Association I am actively involved in spreading information on survivorship and late effects. We organized a very succesful Pancare Budapest conference in 2022. After the event we founded the Later subgroup of HUPON to collaborate with each centre and Erintettek to improve care and provide online and paper-based information for survivors. We translated the first plain guidelines into Hungarian. In Equol project (2024-) we are working to adapt survivorship passport and psychosocial support app.

Maria Otth
My name is Maria and I am a pediatric oncologist from Switzerland.
My focus of clinical care and research is long-term follow-up (LTFU) care. I am responsible for the LTFU care clinic in two hospitals and organized it from scratch in both hospitals.
I am further the deputy chair of the national LTFU working group. On an European level I was the past chair of Young SIOPE and involved in the development of the mentorship program.
PanCare has currently three mentees from this program.
I am a PanCare member since 2018, joined the annual meetings regularly, and was in the local organizing committee for the meeting 2019 in Basel.
Through the PanCare meetings I have attended and the people I have met, PanCare has become a very important organization for me.
The multidisciplinary composition and the input from all disciplines is a huge advantage of this network – and unique from my perspective.
I would like to play an even more active role in this community and contribute to the future of PanCare – for an even better quality of life for former childhood and adolescent cancer patients across Europe.
